Wow: a fantastic beer. Never seen the Grand Cru version of Abbaye de Saint Bon Chien, but it's awesome. Can't quite describe it, but it's a terrific balance across carbonation, sourness, and flavor. OK, how many times do you get a chance to drink a 44 year old first growth? One of my fav all time Bordeaux producers. This wine still has it's substance...the cork came out clean too. It's leather, barnyard, cigar and smooth. What a colorful wine. Wow! — 12 years ago

1982 Bordeaux First Growth. Great vintage. Color is garnet with some rim variation. On the nose, black fruit, overripe plum, tobacco, spice, chocolate, a bit savory and deep down a minuscule amount of Brett. On the palate, dry, m- acid, silky smooth tannins. Black cherry, dark fruit, minerality, and brine. Definitely not overoaked. balanced beautifully! It took about 30 minutes to open up. A bit funky at first but then the fruit pushed forward. An elegant wine that would pair well with food. I enjoyed it on its own! Lucky to have a chance to meet and work with Philipe and Cherie Melka and Sylvie the other day. Enjoyed this wine with hangar steak and onions, mushrooms, and broccoli with garlic. Now the wine. Nose has cocoa, black cherry, tobacco, and hints of orange rind and green bell pepper. The palate confirms the nose with a cherry and dark spice. Green tannins support the fruit without being offensive. Actually, a comfort from some of the fruit bombs in Napa Valley.
