Smooth but still has a subtle tap of flavour 👍 — 9 years ago
1963 Fonseca Vintage Port. D fam dinner at Tap. It was very tight when we first poured, but really opened up. Was completely different 30 min later and again 1.5 hours later. Really enjoyed, but noted to give some air before drinking next time. — 10 years ago
Magnum 2015 Domaine De L'Abbeye Clos Beylesse Rosè. Lunch at Tap w S&L DiM and P&S Co. — 10 years ago
Magnum 2001 Harlan. Group dinner at Tap w RR and J&Viv M during staycation. Final wine of the night, following the '79 Stag's Leap Cask 23 CS and '97 Chateau Montelena CS, both out of magnum as well. Rich, intense, and complex; young. Dark fruit- blackberry, cassis, dark cherry, along with graphite, wood, and earth. All really enjoyed and a real treat out of magnum. — 10 years ago

It's Holiday Season here in Morehead City, NC , and I'm at one of my favorite hangs (Promise' Land Market where the vibe is tres local, coastal, grooviness + Christmas) digging some amazing cheeses, olives, almonds and wine.
Firstly, I posted this wine previously, so this is a double tap with some space in between. Remembering my last experience, I decided to aerate pour into a decanter and on-and-off turbo-twirl for a half hour before jumping jumping in for the swim. That was proper, for sure, as doing so moves this wine up a bit, in my mind, mellowing this front-end tannin bomb , eliminating the raspberry and showing its better blue side, plus adding a little finish. My guess is that the cab franc vintage was less than ideal blurring the merlot and unfortunately squelching what could have maybe been St Emi GC elegance. The rest is my previous post: This GC is maybe a little past it's better time (odd). That written, its Merlot centric main grape charged by a cab franc splash and tempered by what seems to me to be plenty of time luxuriating in classic French oak expressing blueberry & vanilla on the nose contrasted by rabbit tobacco (earth connection complimenting country elegance) seems classic St Emi GC.
After that initial nose-hit of earth, spice, blue fruit and vanilla, it starts to slip, as the tannins grab somewhat roughly (perhaps a death grip) in one's front mouth cutting things short and masking the expectation of a rather brilliant nose turning what starts as blueberry and spice to a tannic squeezing raspberry mouth with zero finish - a shame. Super dark and at first glance would look to be acidic, but very smooth for a Granache. Slight tannic kick, more like a gentle tap. Tobacco and dark fruit: plum, fig and dark cherry. But a bottle now! — 9 years ago
Magnum 2006 Launois Pere et Fils Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne. Post bday lunch at Tap. Mimosas! Solid. — 10 years ago
2013 Peter Michael Ma Danseuse Pinot Noir. Lunch at Tap w S&L DiM and P&S Co. Can't go wrong with this wine. Lovely PN to enjoy with lunch on a hot summer day. — 10 years ago
1983 Taylor Fladgate Port. Lunch at Tap during R's wedding weekend. Leftover bottle from a prior weekend when GD and YD were up. Emptied it. Followed this up w the '63 Fonseca Port, which we all preferred by a small margin over this. — 10 years ago
2009 Peter Michael Belle Cote Chardonnay. Dinner at Tap during staycation. Brought this out as a backup, thinking the '07 Kistler was probably dead- and it was. This wine, thankfully, was great. Well-balanced, not too much oak, honey, apricot, butter, brioche. Gentle finish. We really enjoyed this wine, perhaps more so than otherwise, due to its comp against the corked Kistler. — 10 years ago
Always delicious, a classic Weizenbier. — 9 years ago
Barrel aged saison in white wine barrels on tap at mikkeller SF. Fantastic beer. Rich creamy mouthfeel with amazing malt, but a great tartness and funk to balance it out. For a beer with so much going on (dry hopped, saison, white wine barrels) it is insanely well balanced. Perfect Christmas time beer. — 9 years ago
Magnum 2008 Peter Michael Point Rouge Chardonnay. Dinner at Tap w S&L DiM and P&S Co. Super. Loved especially at Susie and Lydia- the Chardonnay lovers. Not overly oaky- just rich and oaky enough to know it's a CA Chardonnay, but not so much that it's buttery and too rich in oakiness. Enjoyed. — 10 years ago
