Dark garnet color with a wide brim and just a touch of bricking, nothing serious at all. The nose is still kicking at this mature age with a ton of earth notes. Mushrooms and wet moss. Old leather and fresh underbrush. Things are a bit more muted on day two but the fruit does come to play a little. Plums and blackberries mainly with just a little nip of cherry.
You always wonder about these birth year wines as you get older and older and older but I instantly had no doubts about this baby and did it ever deliver. Plenty of nice depth and kept its structure well on day two. The palate was lovely with a nice combination of refinement and rusticity. The streak of mild spice that showed was quite welcome and brings it all home. Terrific stuff. A fantastic aged Bordeaux.

Kinda like a beaune village wine. Floral with medium body. A bit lean as an 14 — 4 years ago
Dark fruit. Enjoyed it. — 5 years ago
A blend of mostly Merlot with a little Cabernet Franc, deep ruby red color with a bouquet of dark black fruit, and a slight herb nose, aged for 12 months in oak. On the palate flavors of blackberry, currant and cherry, with licorice and herbs. Fine grainy tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice and a touch of earthy mineral notes. — 2 months ago

Not one of the best Bordeaux that I have drank but quite decent. 20 years old and still holding its own. for the price point back in 2008 it delivered. — 6 months ago

Bellissima interpretazione dell’annata.
Fresco, teso e molto piacevole.
Poca struttura ma ben bilanciata.
Bel finale che dona peso e carattere.

Flight 4 , wine 2. This was quite a difficult wine to read at first , again quite closed , mineral and tobacco edged . Dark fruits. On the palate rounder than expected , good richness and balance , dark cherry , blackberry fruit . Good rounded tannin and ok length . Quite obviously Bordeaux in the context of this tasting , though I had this as the Lynch Bages 1982 when it was actually the Brane Cantenac 1986 …..I give up ! 90
This was an interesting , though challenging tasting , all served blind in flights of 2 wines , 3 flights of 1 Napa and 1 Bordeaux and 1 of 2 Bordeaux; served in a random sequence . The fact that at least a couple of wines were not pristine didn’t help , though if you will taste 8 , 40 year old wines that is probably par for the course . I found it relatively easy to spot whether what was in the glass was Napa or Bordeaux but didn’t actually get a single wine completely correct ! Probably overall the winner of the tasting was Napa (won the 3 rounds 2-1) as they had more suave polished , rounded personalities. Many put the wines the wrong way round , imagining that Napa was Bordeaux etc. The 1982s in general showed poorly too much funk and brett on the Lynch and Talbot but the Duhart showed surprisingly well . The 86s both showed pretty well and equalled the Dominus (even though I didn’t think we had a pristine bottle) . The Montelena was enjoyable , though was the first to oxidise whilst the Inglenook was the biggest positive surprise , still drinking surprisingly well at 47 . — 4 months ago

Dark red, dark fruit on the nose, with medium acidity and some grippy tannins. Taste of dark fruit, baking spices, chocolate. Better with air on it. — 2 months ago
