Mmm, delicious. Altesse is likely my favorite Savoie white. While I live how Jacquere can almost have this ethereal quality to it, very pure mountain air kind of feel, Altesse brings this weight and depth which is really intriguing. This 2016 is just starting to show a little oxidation, but in a gracefully aged sort of way. Apple skin, delicate white flowers, slight brioche, lemon zest and loads of minerality on the finish. Color is a peachy blush, like Cover Girl from the 90s. Very slight orange tint. I’m drinking this a day old, so fragrance isn’t so pungent: smells like outdoor seating at a white tablecloth restaurant with white flowers, with an elegant woman sitting two seats behind you wearing Crepe de Chine or Amal Goutal— something classic. Also has an undercurrent of Lemonheads (chemical citrus) smell as well. Taste is surprising, not acidic but still dry/not sweet— caramel-like, with peachy strawberry taste and a short finish. Kind of has the taste of a merlot inhabiting a rose. It’s really nice. I often don’t like rose because it’s too sweet or too dry or always somehow tastes too similar... but this one was special. Perhaps one of my faves of the summer. — 8 years ago
