Bright shiny new SB from the crew at Ceritas. Nice acid/fruit balance, low ABV, medium-weight…plenty of citrus, straw, and unripe melon and a long, almost reductive finish. Very tart lemon notes, but marvelous with home baked Sockeye and local yellow string beans. Very young… I think the wine will settle-down a bit with age and pick-up a bit more “gravitas”. Glad to have a half dozen to experiment with over the next few months of local MI summer produce. — 3 years ago
Surprise of the day. Never had a wine from Rhys but this wine alone made me sign up on the list. Best way to describe this is as a happy marriage between Ceritas chards (steely, lean) and Aubert (powerful, full). The acidity here was a refreshing break from the big, oaked Cali chards but it still retained flavor that balanced tropical note with the oak in check. Supremely balanced. — 7 years ago

Rose petals and red fruit, heavy minerality, cold ocean — 3 years ago
A favorite bottle to commemorate some new ink. Always love LF, as this is a chard that definitely grows and progresses as it opens up and warms up in the glass. Beautiful notes of iris, candied pineapple, melon, toasted walnuts, and saline minerality on the nose. Gorgeous texture and purity of fruit.. bruised apple, Meyer lemon, papaya, and chalky minerals. Bright zingy acidity on the backend, but not as lean as something like Ceritas or Failla - a bit more baby fat and textural complexity on this bottle that keeps you coming back for more. A perfect hybrid of styles by Jeff Nelson and co. Paired with a creamy bow tie pasta with dried tomatoes and a spring salad. — 7 years ago
The Migration label first appeared in 2001 as the second label of Goldeneye, both under the Duckhorn masthead, first focusing on Pinot Noir and later adding Chardonnay. Like Paraduxx to Duckhorn, it is no longer a second label, but a winery unto itself. In 2008 Migration, and by extension, Duckhorn, produced its first Chardonnay. In 2009 they produced their first Chardonnay from the legendary Charles Heintz Vineyard. The Charles Heintz Vineyard is located just outside of the town of Occidental where Charlie’s family has farmed the land for over 100 years. Two ridges in, and only about 8 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard is situated in the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA. Heintz has become one of the most famous Chardonnay sites in California, with notable producers including Ceritas, DuMol, Freeman, Flowers, L'Angevin, Kosta Browne, Littorai, Migration/Duckhorn, Moone-Tsai, Pierson Meyer, and Williams Selyem. With its classic Goldridge sandy loam soils, and located just above the fog line, the vineyard receives abundant sunshine and cool ocean breezes. Super mellow Chardonnay, with candied orchard fruit, honeysuckle, wet stone, and some secondary hazelnut, with just a flutter of mushroom in the background. — 8 years ago

Excellent quaff. Goes well on the boat with friends. — 3 years ago
I’m between a 92-93 here. Rounding up due to potential.
A producer I’ve had a few times over the years that for some reason I didn’t explore, even though I always quite enjoyed them (chards and Pinots alike). I picked up a few random bottles from the winery to explore more, and was told to start with the offering as it’s easily accessible.
Down the middle style when it comes to Cali chard. Coastal (bright, sea spray, crystalline), but ripe (beautiful juicy orchard fruits). In the background there is a sweet lemon flair. Aromatics and palate match up, though it had some flinty reduction notes to blow off when opening. Profile wise, I’d say this is more soft and rounded than Ceritas, but not as powerful or bold as Aubert/Marcassin. — 3 years ago
Okay... probably a year past it’s drinking prime, but still fun and full of pleasure. I love these wines when they’re young and vibrant...my third favorite domestic rose behind L’Aventure and Ceritas. This one got lost but still gotta appreciate its cut at 5 years out! Not much fruit left, but nice savory funk notes. — 4 years ago
Richly layered with incredible length. Gorgeous fruit with a purity of place. There is some extraction but not overdone. Last night tasted with Aubert UV-SL and Ceritas Occidental also from 2017. Stylistically, the heavier higher alcohol Aubert and the Ceritas couldn't be more different with the Ferren somewhere in the middle. The group was split between the Ferren and Ceritas as the favorite but all agreed that all the wines were excellent. — 5 years ago
This is seriously good. Recommended to me by the chap at a supermarket in Christchurch. They use cork and this wine has aged beautifully. It’s something a burgundy fan will enjoy, though it reminds me more of like Ceritas. I wouldn’t mind trying this wine with even a touch more age. — 6 years ago
Lemon custard. Nice acidity and an elegant mid palate. Can’t wait to try again later. — 7 years ago

Trout Gulch chard from the vineyard owners. Unmistakeable and a fraction of the cost or A-R or Ceritas. Solid. — a year ago
