4 Vigne Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

Old style regional wine with new world appeal. Not what I expected from this wine, lots of fruit on the nose followed by very nice balance between fruit and alcohol. I'm actually enjoying the mix between new and old world. — 7 years ago

This is a Nebbiolo D'Alba - excellent testure, a classic. I had it with ravioli al plin and ragout and pickled onions from Ivrea. Highly recommended. — 7 years ago

Day 1; way too VA to enjoy. Day 2; tight and youthful yet precise red fruit flavors with floral and licorice additions. High acidity and pronounced tannins on the finish. It will, for sure, get better in due time, but I sincerely doubt greatness will ever be associated with this vintage. — 7 years ago

Serious wine but a fair amount of fruit. Dried cherries, eucalyptus, and earth. Firm tannic structure. I like it! — 8 years ago

Having been through a few more bottles,I can say I was unduly critical of the first. Licorice, leather, tobacco, currant- all present through a long finish. — 10 years ago

Curious in its "ready-to-drink-ness"... I guess it's a "2012 thing". Woodsy, complex, red fruits and "life savers". — 7 years ago

Baccabianca Monferrato White Blend 2009

Ok, so like Michael said, there was this funky cheese whiff when we first opened it, but after some air (and a bottle of Ziereisen Lugle pinot blanc and conversation about pussy hat parades), this wine settled in as the perfect companion to our smitten kitchen one pan chicken tikka with potatoes and cauliflower. Nutty, mellow, nutmeg, and smooth tannins in a white whine ("orange wine" to be exact). Yum. Sad I only have the one more bottle... — 7 years ago

I had this vintage of Francia some years ago and I wasn't satisfied with the wine as it appeared very withdrawn, dark and a bit rejecting. Now it slowly opens up, showing more fresh fruit aromas, tar and some floral notes. Lively acidity, nice fruit and polished tannins on the palate. Give it one more decade and this Francia will turn into a real beauty. — 8 years ago

Stuffed full of rose petals and tar, this richly textured, granular wine presents leathery, meaty, dirty notes along with its spicy cherry fruit and funk. White chocolate notes on the rich nose. Very fruity but not as herbal as I sometimes like. Could lay down a bit longer. — 9 years ago

Oh my... What a wonderful surprise! This one's got quite the character. Great just on it's own, paired with a warm evening outdoors... When I first read chamomile, I feared boring, but this is anything but boring! Soft Chamomile, paired with peach and a sightly spicy dry, but sassy finish, that reminds of cinnamon. Yum! We shall meet again... — 7 years ago
