The Piper Rutherglen Red Blend 1992

The cork was in excellent condition as was the wine. Opened over the course of drinking. (Had to slow down to appreciate it.) — 10 years ago

Rare Rutherglen Topaque

Having had the "Classic Reserve" Topaque a few weeks ago, the "Rare" is a step up in concentration and length. Unctuous in texture the palate is mouthfilling with a never ending finish. Rutherglen Fortifieds - one of Australia's gifts to the Wine World along with aged Hunter Valley Semillon. — 10 years ago

Yalumba

Museum Show Reserve Muscat 1937

Obviously not a Muscat- rather the legendary 1937 Caldwells 'Claret' purchased from an auction in the Barossa about 20 years ago - this half bottle having come from the Yalumba museum. A very big and intense wine that clearly deserved its reputation for being among the greats of Australian wine history. Also tasted from a full bottle in 1988 which was remarkable. — 10 years ago

Excellent. Very strong but goes well with a variety of puddings. — 11 years ago

Classic Rutherglen Muscat

Sweet wine from Australia. Surprisingly amazing! Deep Amber, smell of wood and "rhum raisin" Christmas cake like. Prune, mushroom, long finish, great with blue cheese. Somewhere in between a sauterne and a tawny port (if it's possible) — 11 years ago

Caramel-marzipan-orange-cookie love. Lemon dust and graham goodness, sassafras cola cool, toffee crunch and date, honeycomb and brown sugar-apricot. Rich, full bodied but somehow light on its feet. YES — 11 years ago

Fairfield Vineyard

Fourpenny Dark Port

Old tawny style port from rutherglen. Purchased back in the 80s and kept with some vintage which will be cracked soon. A bit light on but 30 years of mistreatment its held up well — 11 years ago

Rare Rutherglen Muscat

Amazing concentration - unctuous is the word! A little sweeter than the Rare Topaque but the same essence of fruit cake and raisins. Only 350 half bottles of Rare made each year. A stunning fortified!! — 10 years ago

Rutherglen Muscat

Oh my god! What a wonderful dessert wine.

Burnt orange color with a copper hue and a pale yellow/orange rim. Color in the bottle is more brown than orange.

Immensely strong nose of curry, indian spices (as if you walked into an Indian restaurant), cinnamon, coffee, brandy, orange peel, tumurac, raisins, figs and dates.

Extremely smooth and soft on the palate, with figs, raisins, dates, coffee, sweet candy, citrus and sweet cherries.

Sweet, Full bodied, bold and buttery with great legs. It actually tastes like a liquor would, without the alcohol burn.

Long finish with a trace of brandy.

17% alcohol.

The high acidity makes this sweet dessert wine, very balanced and non cloying.

Poured from a 375ml bottle.

This is a non vintage bottle, but I held it for 8 years in my cellar, and boy does it show...

Cofield Wines

Victoria Marsanne Viognier 2008

A great drink; mature white from Rutherglen winemaker Cofield; 13.8%, the aged character of marsanne + bitter sweet tannins of viognier give this unwooded drop an unctuous feeling in the mouth; wine style no longer made; shows the unpopularity of these warm region white Rhone blends in the sauvignon age; excellent. — 11 years ago
