Great wine, not for the faint of heart. Strong flavor, deep body, woody tanins. Overall a mature, dry, cherrish wine with strong influence from wood. Throughly enjoyable. — 12 years ago
🍷smooth. Great cherry blackberry flavors — 12 years ago
First time with varietal Tintore. Rustic with lots of dark fruit and black pepper. A bit of bret but well integrated. The color really lived up to the name. — 13 years ago

Heavy bottle. Wine gets much better after breathing a while. Nice texture and flavor at the end. $42 bottle is too much. — 8 years ago
2011 was a good year for Valle Reale in Abruzzo., very similar weather to 2007. The Sant’Eusanio vineyard is a small patch nestled among pine woods. At 497 m it is the highest zone in Valle Reale, this helps with the large diurnal swing. The vines were planted in 2002 in soil that is poor and pebbly This produces a unique “mountain expression” of Montepulciano with high acidity and fresh, slightly lighter fruit than expected. This bottle was opened 2 days ago, still has lots of acidity, cherry, a little spice and herbal notes. This vintage should be good for another 5-7 years and represents a good bargain.

Enjoyed with spicy broccoli shrimp and spaghetti. Pinot Grigio was tangy with peach apricot and pears. With dinner subtle and smooth finish. 2014 perfect! — 9 years ago

A must have when you plan a dinner with meat like Tagliata, Fiorentina or Entrecôte, strong taste — 12 years ago
2008 vintage, disgorged in 2012, 13%. Golden yellow color, with hints of green, very fine perlage. Elegant nose: honey, almond, marzipan. In the mouth it had great acidity, rich flavors of pastries and nuts, and the right sapidity too. I loved it! 93/100 — 12 years ago

Recovering from a horrendous cold that I’m pretty sure I got from walking the streets of Paris last week, I decided to venture out for a “treat yourself” Monday night dinner back in Chicago.
You know that song lyric that goes, “whatever Lola wants, Lola gets”? Well, not in my case. I did want a French wine solely based on nostalgia, but settled on an Italian in a French restaurant.
With one nostril passage opened, I was able to get a very overpowering bouquet of tar (which by the way has been on my bucket list of aromatics to smell- so happy I can cross that off), earth floor, mushrooms, cedar and a bit of menthol.
Tannins are very much soft and nonexistent in this bottle- full bodied with high acidity. Medium garnet color, which was surprising based on the age. I didn’t find this as complex as some Barolos I’ve had in the past, but still found it very enjoyable. On the palate, a very surprising sweet ripeness of red plum that doesn’t linger long on the tongue. Overall- not bad for a Monday. — 8 years ago
