Brett Dennen

Cain Vineyard & Winery

Cain Five Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2010

Way too young now but destined for greatness. Chris Howell knows how to showcase what the mountain gives him. This wine, with its hints of well integrated Brett, is not only distinctive for Napa, but stands out against others from the mountain AVAs. Cellar for a long time! — 11 years ago

1983. Needed an hour or more but then it had beautiful leather, bell pepper, and earth. The brett was pretty manageable too. — 11 years ago

Opus One

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1991

Brett? Game, power, plenty of fruit still present. As much as I have hated on the Opus Ones of this world, I am smitten. — 11 years ago

Yeah, even with my hate filter firmly placed in mouth, I found the 2012 Opus to be one of the most outstanding things I tasted at Texsom last summer.

89-91 Opus got it right...not so much after 95 but I haven't had anything since 2006 or so.

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

This is finally shedding it's tannin. Took a little while for the Brett to blow off but under that was nice dark fruits with some tinderbox aromas and smoke. A more primal Latour, but still a great Pauillac. — 11 years ago

Domaine Bernard Baudry

Chinon Cabernet Franc 2010

Great unfiltered Chinon, tart raspberry-rhubarb, pepper, some bottles seem to show a little more Brett than others. — 12 years ago

Bodegas Faustino

Gran Reserva Faustino I Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2001

Body medium +, Brett, menthol, pepper, strawberry, cherry, earthy, oak. A bit "hot". Bottle is atypical. You can't see content. Great with beef deli. Grown at high altitude. 13.5deg. A very pleasant surprise! Don't buy a bottle by its label. — 11 years ago

Lots of brett for one hour. Then super depth with lots of graphite. Still a lot of fruit. — 11 years ago
