Colgin Cellars

IX Estate Napa Valley Red Blend 2013

2013. Dark presence with violet-black from edge to end. Unctious. El Capitan tears with solar flare outcroppings linear paralleling across the cliff face. Lovely mushroom and earth interplay here with blackberry bourgeoning and black olive wisps. Forêt Noir leanings with brittle and toffee behind a curious veil of grill smoke. Palate is met with a rush of intense flavor, warm dark chocolate and raw nib, concentrated black cherry, cedar, blackberries and red currant, ripe blackberry, licorice, tobacco, and a drop of treacle. Wild resonance! Flavor permanences.

Matthiasson

Napa Valley Red Blend 2012

Really quite nice but I probably slightly preferred the 2011 we had a few months ago. Quite inky dark and refined. It’s all there - the fruit, the sweet tannins, the slight vanilla from the oak. Very nice with a beautiful ribeye on the grill. — 3 years ago

One of my favorite go to wines. Cooking steaks on the grill with a Tartiflette, time to relax! — 6 years ago

Château de la Gardine

Cuvée des Generations Gaston Philippe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2012

A legacy CdP from the collection. Haven’t had in many years - with the age it’s certainly nice. Though, quite full bodied and somehow still somewhat austere, and with not enough acid to really keep it all refined. Nice enough with skirt steak on the grill. — 2 years ago

Château Montrose

La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Really a pretty nice second wine from a great Bordeaux house (Montrose). In general I prefer St Julien to St Estephe but this is very good. Decanted 2 hours which I recommend. Inky in the glass. Some good secondary notes on the nose. Fruit is very there, but more acid to keep it balanced than I expected. Nice with a prime ribeye on the grill. — 4 years ago
