El Coto de Rioja

Reserva Coto de Imaz Rioja Tempranillo Blend 1996

Poured into a decanter about 30 minutes prior to service; no formal notes. Wow. The 1996 Reserva is showing so well. I would place it in the vinous category but it’s far from tasting “old”. I shared this bottle with a group of experienced, expensive California Cabernet drinkers and it was universally enjoyed even though it could only be described as a traditional expression of Rioja Reserva. Well-stored examples (though few exist at this point), are drinking well now. What a lovely surprise. — 10 days ago

Coto de Gomariz

The Flower and the Bee (La Flor y la Abeja) Treixadura 2019

Bright golden color. Aromas of tropical fruits, white flowers and sea spray. The palate leans more toward pear and unripe peach with a pleasant herbal note on the finish. Mouth filling texture, medium body and crisp acidity. There is a bit of weight (pleasant) but it’s not over the top. Still fresh (opened almost five years past the vintage date) and quite fruit forward. So interesting! — a month ago
