Flora Springs

Holy Smoke Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Drinking well. These single vineyard Flora Springs always seem to drink well young. I prefer the Wild Boar, but this is still delicious — 8 years ago

La Grapperie

Adonis Coteaux du Loir Pineau d'Aunis

Light effervescence, alive, moving on the pallette. Bears some similarity to Corniellsen's Contadino but with less Etna smoke. A little boarish (would pair well with a boar stew, manchego cheese) — 9 years ago

Salvatore Molettieri

Vigna Cinque Querce Taurasi Aglianico

Used part of the bottle to make wild boar stew. Then revisited with the stew. Yum. — 9 years ago

One of my favorites for the backstory and value! Deep and bold, and paired nicely with the wild boar and duck. If you haven't tried this Howell Mtn. gem I suggest you do! — 9 years ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Fontalloro Toscana Sangiovese 1997

From magnum, this was a bit muted and restrained with a shy nose of red cherry, blackberry, allspice and mint notes. Lively entry with Sangiovese’s austere tannins. Red cherry, cranberry and cassis fruit in the mouth. Lacked the density I expected. Paired really well with the wild boar ragu and pappardelle. — 8 years ago

A tannic monster. Figured a wine named "Wild Boar" is appropriate for Father's Day. This is so freaking dark in notes, but the color wouldn't allude to that. Color is red/purple and smells hot. Red licorice, peppercorn, anise on the nose. High tannins on the palate. Cedar, smoky, beef jerky notes to it. Spicy rhubarb too. If opening now, this needs at least a two hour decant. — 8 years ago

Azienda Agricola Lohsa

Morellino di Scansano Sangiovese 2013

Exceptionally rich yet nervy, Lohsa 2013 Morellino di Scansano is certainly cut along the local Sangiovese lines of this DOCG but this is cut of a finer woolen and fragrant cloth true to the Poliziano house whose handsome strength comes through in savory spiced cherries and al dente tannins. A wine to serve with wild boar or crispy duck. — 10 years ago
