On the nose, savory, wild, dark berries, blue berries, black raspberries, raspberries, smoke, vanilla, light cinnamon, fresh dark florals and moist black earth. The palate is leaner medium. The tannins are soft and round. Bright, ripe fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, plum, dark cherries, moist dark earth, stones, soft leather, wood shavings, steeped black fruit tea, dark fresh florals, bright round acidity and a round, fresh, ripe, fruity finish. Excellent for around $25. Producer notes...Dr. János Stumpf studied under Tibor Gál, internationally known winemaker of SuperTuscan Ornalia. Dr. Stumpf dry farms approximately 15 hectares of vines on the south facing hill of Eged. They are split between two vineyards with very similar conditions, Sik Dülö and Eged­Hegy Dülö or the Eged Hill Vineyard. Both are planted in almost pure limestone on a 20% grade situated about half way up the hill...the mid point of a hill or slope is an excellent location for angle to the sun. Aged in mostly large 500L barrels (3/4 new) which; allowes for very slow oxidation and a more nuanced influence of oak. After an average of 20 months in barrel, they are kept in separate lots until the final blend. All wines were bottled unfiltered and stored for a minimum of 1 year before release. Pairings; herbed pheasant, lamb, pungent creamy cheeses and whole grain based dishes like barley or faro. For the authentic experience, wild venison is recommended. — 9 years ago

2015 in 3/20. Glorious!!!! Soooooo wish I bought more of this. Skin contact Zibibbo from AUSTRALIA!!! 13%. 70 yr old Bush vines. 150 days in clay. Stone fruit, cooked citrus marmalade, ginger-esque something. So aromatic, delicious and fun!! Need more stuff like this around the Orl area. #steakandclaretnight chez moi with Marin Sun Farms ribeye and this rarely-seen 2nd label of Pape-Clement. Although a little dodgy looking with a low fill and signs of seepage, this 28 year old just gained dark fruit and freshness in the decanter. Mike Grgich, the “King of Chardonnay” farms w/o pesticides and certified organic. Aged 10 months and did not undergo malolactic fermentation. The color is a pale golden yellow with aromas of stone, tropical fruit and citrus. The palate shows off apple, melon and peach flavors, with some orange rind and nutty notes coming through. The finish was rich and creamy with some spicy mineral and perfumed tones lingering to a complex ending. Not your typical California Chardonnay, Grgich delivers like a few can! — 10 years ago

The nose reveals; waxy, sweet & sour lemons, the light, good/softer aspects of lemon pledge, lime zest, green & golden apple, overripe pineapple, honeysuckle, apricots, white peach, orange rind, grapefruit w/ pith, tree bark, flintiness, notes of roasted caramel, vanillin, beautifully, elegant, grey volcanics, salty, powdery, even slightly floral chalkiness, white to lightly brown spices, sea spray, oyster notes, limestone/sandstone, fruit blossoms, yellow lilies framed in a field of spring flowers.

The body is thick, rich, lush and nicely rounded. If you like viscosity, no issues here. It guides over the palate presenting no mouth arguments. Waxy, sweet & sour lemons, the light, good/softer notes of lemon pledge, green & some golden apple with skin, lime zest, overripe pineapple, honeysuckle, apricots, white peach, orange rind, tropicals green melon, tree bark, notes of roasted caramel, beautifully, elegant, grey volcanics, salty, powdery, even slightly floral chalkiness, white to lightly brown spices with some medium palate heat, sea spray, oyster notes, sulfur/flintiness, limestone/sandstone, fruit blossoms, yellow lilies framed in a field of spring flowers. The acidity is near dead on...like a gentle cool stream. The long finish is, gorgeous & sexy, elegant, rich, good balance all around and persists gently for minutes.

Just gets better & better as it warms & opens up in the glass. This Bourgogne will add another point or two when I open my next bottle in 2-3 years. Except now, I own a bunch more of this 2018. Have some to enjoy early.

Excellent with our soft, white cheese...Jasper Hill Farms-Harbison. If you can find this cheese, it gets one of my highest recommendations. Bought it at Whole Foods but, you can always check JasperHillFarms.com if N/A where you shop.
