Reminiscent of Beaujolais' Gamay, this southern part of Tuscany's Ampeleia is producing some fine red wine! Mine tonight, after 30 minutes swim and spin in the decanter's pool of naked open space and air shows first to the nose wet rocks, slate and sandstone freshly accenting menthol and anise then strictly earthen dirt and minerals and a hint of the berries. First kiss is lightly but intriguingly nasty, wet and dripping red fruit which immediately coats and clings but most interestingly reaches back for the wet rocks overlooking the Med, then re-engages just in time to leave hints of her red and blue berry essence complimenting the blackened octopus in a mash of white beans and spices laced with a hint of Tabasco offered up by Chapel Hill's Il Palio located off Franklin Street (checkout both) Ciao🕶 — 10 years ago
Great flavor! — 11 years ago
Dark fruit balanced through old oak showing light spice on the nose encouraging thought to nail a specific note but is remaining a bit of an enigma in my rock rattled head after a good day enhanced by 75 MPH Harley induced wind and the brilliance of Bose and an iPhone. Ok, back to the wine, it touches, lightly grabs spreading its dark berry mini-burst in a layered earth touched tannin slow ride making magic with some of Chapel Hill's Bin 54's straight up amazing goodness (in this case very rare filet mignon, garlic tinged green beans and almond slivers; my go to steak spot in NC). Damn, this is all so right-on! Cheers! — 11 years ago

"Beautiful aromas of roasted coffee beans, wild cherries, black licorice, toasty wood, hint of cocoa and vanilla. On the palate, powerful yet elegant bodied, infused with spice, black fruits, firm tannins, long, spicy finish."

Pork chops, grits and beans — 9 years ago
Clear scents of cacao beans, coffee, rosemarie, dark cherries and dried violets. Structured, powerful with medium tannins and acidity. Big and deep wine though such untypical for Montagne satellite. — 10 years ago
Friday nights wine comes from the right bank of Bordeaux - Canon Fronsac. The 2010 Chateau Moulin Haut Laroque 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec. The Herve family first started making wine back in 1890 and continue to today. A great track record and delivering a well valued Bordeaux.
The nose is very expressive with dark fruits of black plum, blackberry, black currant, licorice, clove, coffee beans and tar.
Upon first sip black cherries jump out at you full force, with blueberries, a smooth coating of creme de cassis and dried oregano.
There is a nice full bodied mouth feel with medium + acidity and medium sandy tannins.
For the price this is a very nice and serviceable Bordeaux.

Really enjoyed this- needed a gentle decant, due to quite a bit of sediment, but I was rewarded with dusty leather, sautéed mushrooms, rich earthiness, and a touch of bramble. As it opened, I got a bit more ripe plum, dried dark cherry and some cedar. The low alcohol (13.3%) and noticeable acid made this well integrated wine, a great food wine. I had it with sautéed shallots, green beans, and a filet in brandy peppercorn cream sauce. Very enjoyable! — 10 years ago

Smooth and supple, with notes of raspberry, bing cherry, and subtle blueberry. Finishing notes of coffee beans and mocha. It's very nice. — 11 years ago
From the famed Prichard Hill estate vineyard, this 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a cult wine, rubbing shoulders with Screaming Eagle, Harlan and Colgin. The nose is typical of Napa Cab, with rich aromas of steeped blackberries, cassis, saddle leather, spice box and carmelized brown sugar. On the palate, it's silky, sexy and nicely balanced. There is a lovely, polished interplay of fine tannins and glycerol, along with darker notes of saddle leather, cedar, and espresso beans. Medium plus finish. — 11 years ago
Cool beans, as they say. 1982. Oxidyzed nose, acidity softened but still lively. Even hanging in there on day 2. Thanks Troy & Gina! — 12 years ago
Black fruits, coffee beans, chewy tannins. Well balanced Merlot from Right Bank. — 13 years ago
Nice and dusty, tobacco and chocolate cherry. Paired well with sautéed green beans dish — 10 years ago
One of the best medium range Sherry. Figs, raisins, dates, coffee beans, vanilla, salted caramel, cardamom, at the taste is smooth, very sapid and with a pleasant bitter liquorice finish — 10 years ago
Coffee beans, toffee, creme brûlée. I want to pour this all over any desert. Yup. All of the deserts. — 11 years ago
Perfect choice for chicken, black beans and rice! Who needs beer when you can pop the cork of a Long Shadow Collection wine? — 11 years ago
Roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, blackberry, cassis, earth. Masculine, powerful, dense palate, concentrated finish. Big mouthfeel. Very impressive. Great for the price. — 11 years ago
This is the amazing 2003 and is an OMG wine, expressing sweet vanilla over a beautiful silky texture. Color is moving towards brick. Muted nose has black fruit, leather, and a bit of toffee. Palate has hedonistic silky texture, black fruit, spice, espresso beans, and perfectly balanced fine tannins. Acidity is just strong enough to bring you back to the glass without pulling attention away from the silkiness. 120 second finish move from sweet to savory. Truly outstanding wine drinking amazingly well at 12 years old! — 11 years ago
I thought it was a great wine with dinner. We had it with homemade fried chicken, dill buttermilk, green beans. I loved this wine! — 12 years ago

Light garnet in color with some transparency. Cranberry nose and cinnamon nose. Cranberry, tart cherry. I now know what people mean when they say stems and bramble. Very lithe and feminine. Perfect with ahi crudo and fresh burrata with fava beans. Birthday celebration #3 and best wine yet — 9 years ago
