A really fun Bordeaux blend (Merlot dominant) grown exclusively in the Brunello di Montalcino region. Unfiltered, and it shows, the silty smoothness is fascinating. Red and black fruits, tootsie roll and hot earth are highlights of both the nose and palette. A very different type of Italian wine, but a fabulous super Tuscan. — 6 years ago
Not the Syrah - it's the Merlot blend. Beautiful wine, drink now. — 9 years ago

I've been exploring more of the Italian varietals lately, and really diving into the Bacci family of wines. This Vermentino they make is just unique enough amungst it's kind that it stands out a hair more than the rest. A faint reminder of petrol from some German Riesling on the nose, followed by fresh white flowers, hay, and honeysuckle. The pallet is fairly flinty and minerally, with notes of ripe white pears, lemon zest, and a crisp acidity to the finish without being sharp. Instead, it is a wine that plays it's tune steadily at mezzo piano, with a sharp ring of a high note to the finish. — 9 years ago

After another great webinar hosted by @Antonio Galloni today with legends of Chianti Classico, obviously I had to reach for a bottle. This is a Gran Selezione from Bacci-owned Castello di Bossi in the southern half of the DOCG.
Bright ruby red, unfiltered (as witnessed by a hypnotic haziness in the glass). Nose delivers underripe aromas of greenery, sour cherry, oak, and leaves. On the palate, it's just over medium weight, medium plus alcohol fairly well disguised, dry with medium acidity yet bitter. The tannins are firm and lack finesse. Medium finish length.
The are much better examples of Gran Selezione, even in this price range. But, it's hard to not keep drinking this with gratitude.
