Azienda Agricola Le Ragnaie

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2005

This was a wine that I have been holding onto for years and finally deemed my belated birthday dinner to be the perfect or imperfect time to enjoy it. Le ragnaie is for me the very best that Brunello can be especially with this type of age on it: all dried red fruit and dried herbs and leather and all perfectly in balance! Plus Ricardo The man behind the line is just a super nice person! You can read more about it on my blog if that’s the sort of thing you do 🥰 — 5 years ago

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

the most traditional brunello I have had. makes one wonder why some producers add so much wood or overextract???? — 7 years ago

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2009

I love how this is showing. Soulful and delicious, worked so well at the table. Sexy, aromatic, and bright acid/tannin. Violets, licorice, tar, pepper, leather, wet tobacco, moss, macerated cherry and plum. The earth is so integrated, layers of pure fruit beneath is all. Nice length, silky texture followed up by charming tannin. — 8 years ago

Fattoria Poggio di Sotto

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1996

Had it February 2011.
Garnet, orange, a bit cloudy.
Nose that changes minute after minute. Fruit and balsamic at first( full on Sangiovese from 96 vintage), then hematite( like Sodaccio 97), later hazelnut, chestnut, Tuscan chimney (Rayas 98), again changes in fava beans notes, herbaceous (cab franc like🙄).
Round, soft with a fresh approach and a good persistence on the palate. Good tannin, complex, enjoyable, but I don't think it will evolve more.

Pietranera

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Ron R
9.2

This took a while to settle down. Initially, I was concerned, but that soon evaporated.
Visually, the wine is delicate in the glass. Nose is filled with mushrooms, truffles, forest floor and black cherries. The wine is taut on the palette. With O2, it extends and expands. Perfectly balanced with underripe tannins. This is destined for greatness - make no mistake!
Tonight, I was introduced to something that I want to return to, 3 - 5 years from now...

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2009

Lovely. Just lovely. Was lucky enough to receive this one as a gift while visiting Florence. This is simply a great Brunello (although the 2010 is slightly better). An hour decant and it's open for business. Big acidity with a velvet mouthfeel, ripe and somewhat candied red fruits, dark chocolate and leather notes. I want more. — 9 years ago

Casanova di Neri

Cerretalto Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1997

By the first time since I saw Cerretalto the vineyard with my eyes, I felt in love with the wine: a mystic core which pour out from that ferrous almost mulberry soil brushed by a gentle breeze that blow through the hills of Val d'Orcia; sober, clear, severe, tidy wine a generous and enduring expression of that certain land. — 11 years ago

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1999

Too old... it took a while to get the wood smell out... the astringency also went with air... after that it was quite nice and worth of a 9.1 rating but the first impression turned me off... I should have drunk this one 5 years ago 😒 — 7 years ago

La Cerbaiola di Salvioni Giulio

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2007

19/I/2017

2001 Valdicava Riserva Madonna Piano Nebbiolo. Drank at Reddwood. This wine was much bigger and more velvety than the Giacosa Barbaresco. I might have preferred this wine slightly. K didn't think this wine quite lived up to expectations. — 10 years ago

1975 Riserva. Not reconditioned. Sourced from Barry at Rare Wine Co. Excellent fill. Well balanced. Good acidity and fruit. Wish I had vocabulary to describe it and senses to fully appreciate it. Totally worth it. Had it with pappardelle and veal ragu and funghi pizza with homemade sausage. — 10 years ago
