Fresh, elegant, and pure. Just what the doctor ordered to energise the mid-week slump! Unfurls in the glass with aromas of cherry liqueur, mint, dusty florals, and a tincture of meatiness. The palate’s silky and airy, with juicy acidity and fine sandy tannins felt on the gums (more specifically at the base of the teeth). Subtle finish that’s actually quite long, as it lingers with notes of cherry and earthy accents. With air, the mid-to-back palate gained some mineral notes which I wanted more of, but alas the bottle was finished! Such is the danger of a great wine - an empty bottle comes far too soon, without you even realising it. — 2 years ago
Dark tawny with reddish rims. Almost opaque. Nice nose. Notes of black cherries, some black licorice, blueberries pepper, and some dark dry earth. Has a heavy presence in the mouth with structure dominating the modest sweet fruit in the background. I would say drink these up as the fruit is dry and fading, leaving a dry and wispy finish. — 5 years ago
Another outstanding wine from the excellent 2012 vintage. Although slightly fresher than the warmer 2011 vintage, this wine offers also a lush Brunello style. Loads if fruit and spice, and a finish that goes on and on. Truly delicious now, will be even better in the coming years. — 7 years ago
2003 showin very well! Great aromatics, dried cherries, leather, dried orange peel, eucalyptus. Good acid, mellow tannins. Glad i bought 6 — 8 years ago
2009 brunello di montalcino from Antinori. Notes of dead leaves, cigar box, overripe red cherries, old leather and burning forest. Decanted for 3 hours the palate is soft with approachable tannins that linger for a little bit but not too long, with an ashy, leathery quality that excites me. I don't usually dig Italian wines, but then again I usually never drink Italian wines this good. Great, great wine. — 9 years ago
By the first time since I saw Cerretalto the vineyard with my eyes, I felt in love with the wine: a mystic core which pour out from that ferrous almost mulberry soil brushed by a gentle breeze that blow through the hills of Val d'Orcia; sober, clear, severe, tidy wine a generous and enduring expression of that certain land. — 9 years ago
Maraschino cherries on the nose. Saddle leather and olives on the palate. This will sail on for many years.
@M. Christopher Roebuck influenced my score as I think he nailed it. HNY bud! — a year ago
40th harvest. Bravo! This is a new find for me from my most favorite appellation in Central Italy. The 2012 packs everything I like about Brunello. Medium garnet color with fresh, vibrant hue of young Sangiovese. Relatively classic. Juicy with red cherry, wild strawberry, a bit of wild raspberry. It's seen quite a fair bit of new oak showing both scent and taste of baking spices, new leather, vanilla bean. Silky tannin backed up by med-plus acidity. You surely don't drink a Brunello young but this is tempting. Best around 2022-2035. 90+ — 7 years ago
Ok 17 years old and still this strong and classic?! Nice. Earthy woody notes and usual taste sensations you expect. Was a gift. Wish I had more! — 8 years ago
A notch or two finer, more interesting and complex than the Col d'Orcia I had last week. Color more brick. Great half bottle! — 8 years ago
2001 Valdicava Riserva Madonna Piano Nebbiolo. Drank at Reddwood. This wine was much bigger and more velvety than the Giacosa Barbaresco. I might have preferred this wine slightly. K didn't think this wine quite lived up to expectations. — 8 years ago
Obviously way too young but I am impatient
Enjoyed over a few hours but not ready — 9 years ago
First of this kind that I have had. For the price, younger barolos are more complex with longer finishes — 11 years ago
Bright and vibrant. Cherries, plums, and red berries. Delicious now, but I am sure it will improve with some aging. — 3 years ago
I love how this is showing. Soulful and delicious, worked so well at the table. Sexy, aromatic, and bright acid/tannin. Violets, licorice, tar, pepper, leather, wet tobacco, moss, macerated cherry and plum. The earth is so integrated, layers of pure fruit beneath is all. Nice length, silky texture followed up by charming tannin. — 7 years ago
Had it February 2011.
Garnet, orange, a bit cloudy.
Nose that changes minute after minute. Fruit and balsamic at first( full on Sangiovese from 96 vintage), then hematite( like Sodaccio 97), later hazelnut, chestnut, Tuscan chimney (Rayas 98), again changes in fava beans notes, herbaceous (cab franc like🙄).
Round, soft with a fresh approach and a good persistence on the palate. Good tannin, complex, enjoyable, but I don't think it will evolve more. — 8 years ago
Cherries and earth. Cedar and coffee. Rustic. Med+ tannin. Perfect food wine. A bit young. I will love to see this in 5 years. — 8 years ago
A well balanced Brunello, I found it not to bold — 9 years ago
Delicious, special selection Brunello — 9 years ago
One of the best Brunello I have ever enjoyed — 10 years ago
