Along with McManis and Bogle, this is one of my favorite widely available Cab Sauvs under $15 here in NYC... — 8 years ago

Welcome to Dr Todd's Wine Bar once again. Tonight we are tasting Elizabeth and Clarke Swanson's 2002 Alexis from Oakville Estates in Napa Valley. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. The cork has a 3mm ring that is well defined. The legs are 4 seconds. The boquet is that of ripe plums. the initial palate is blackberry currant. There is no tanic boquet or taste. The finish is minimally dry, spicy and tantelizing tonthe roof of the mouth. The middle edges of the toungue are tingling. This is very very very good wine!!! I will try and contact the wine makers and order a case of this beautiful wine! Its most likely not available... — 10 years ago
Showing signs of oxidization, but underneath fig and bruised-apple aromas, the nose has a rich and secondary nose of dark black raspberries, cedar, tobacco, dried cherries, and a tinge of cumin. In the mouth, it resembles a printed canvas of dark fruit, leather, cedar, tobacco, and savory tamari notes. There’s a nice texture to the midpalate flavors. It is gorgeously balanced, medium bodied, with lively acidity, still some tannic grip - though refined, and a satisfying length.
This is a wine of substance, at an extremely interesting and delicious point in its life, available for an absolutely ridiculous price. Thanks @Alder Yarrow for the recommendation! (The winemaker is Cathy Corison). — 10 years ago

@David L @Joe Lucca @Mike R @Carl Fischer @Howard Greenfield @Jim Trobaugh @Bill Bender @Terri Walker@@Monica O @Jim Trobaugh @Paul T @Ted Mandes @Steve Colanero @Kirk Alexander A little background before I talk about the wine. Ted Mandes is the Chairman of the Board for the Palm Beach Wine Auction. He has a passion for wine and palate which will rival that of an MS. Truly incredible! Via his contacts with various wineries he's decided to create a Proprietary private Blend called "M" Mandes -Brothers blend. A 1 barrel project. This year's wine was blended by Ted and none other than Ed Snider!!!! This is a Right Bank style wine which is similar to Cheval Blanc: Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cab Franc. Ted & Ed crafted an absolute Masterpiece. Ed's exact words when he tasted the finished product was "You've gotta to be the luckiest S O B that I know. This is one of the best wines that I've ever made". Let me tell you., Ed was Right!!!!! This was truly a Beauty. It's a lush opulent wine which is velvety smooth when it hits the Front, Mid and back palate.
"Holy shit this is good" was stated by everyone at the table!!!! Ted is working on other projects as well. I can't wait to see what else he has up his sleeve!!!!!
If it resembles this masterpiece in any way I'm "All in" with purchasing my allocation on a yearly basis!!! I bought a 6L 3L and a six pack and would do so for as long as he continues on the journey. He & Ed truly knocked out of the park with this one!!! It truly was "Awesomeness in a Glass". A term I've used to describe a wine which I consider to be the best of the best. P.s- Steve Colanero should bottle that sauce!!! It was just as good as Ted's wine!!
Man., what a night!!! This was by far the WOTN!! Some of you will get to try this at my house when I host Ted in March for a small tasting. Extremely limited quantities are available. Contact me if you are interested. Cheers!! — 8 years ago
Sam Kaplan is making some amazing stuff lately and this is no exception! Also got to try the 2013...and it is even better! Available this spring. — 9 years ago

Really starting to appreciate sherry of late (better offerings now available to me here) and this one did not disappoint. Tons of dried citrus, toffee, caramel and roasted nuts. — 10 years ago
Sanguine do Giuda. Sweet blood of judas. Only available at the Wine Room in Winter Park, Orlando — 11 years ago
Fantastic balance featuring fresh tropical fruit and flowers with harmonizing acidity...small amount of petite manseng and tramanette round out body...well made - Monticello cup Gold medal...$19 - available at Winchester walking mall — 11 years ago
Unfortified Fino showing much lower alcohol. If this style were more prevalent & available, I think I'd be all over it regularly. Electric & bright. Each sip more lively than the last. Aromatically, this comes at you in waves. Lemon & tarragon notes weave together across the nose. A unique & amazing bottle of wine. — 8 years ago
Love this wine. Make sure you enjoy at the perfect temperature. Had one bottle that was too warm... wasn't nearly as good as the many others I've had. I now make sure to have at least one bottle at home available at anytime. It's my current favorite by far — 9 years ago
Love this Rose! It's available from WineShop at Home. — 9 years ago
This the third time I've had this in the last year and it shows beautifully right out of the gate. The wood and fruit are so interestingly and well melded at this point. Oak moves to cedar on the palate. Definite alcohol lift in the nose still and you can feel it the nostrils but not obtrusive...indeed it's actually a promising hint of what's to come on the palate. Dried cherry and stone fruit tastes on right away. Slightly mentholated. Definitely picking up distinct vanilla undertones on the nose and palate but not over the top. Satisfying medium tannins. Soft mouth feel but with really good/balanced structure. Perfect finish in line with what preceded it. Just a great fucking wine. And for the price? Getcha some! Can't believe this is still just around and available (not telling where!). Not for those who don't want wood in their wine but even here what you think will finish moderately chalky moves to soft-ish tannins at the perfect time. So many riojas are over top in the wood category or just so out of balance one way or the other. Everyone has heard of Rioja but have you really had a good one? Here's your chance without breaking the bank. I'd put this one up against the best or at least those considered the best. Maybe lacking a LITTLE finesse to be world class but damn close (can you use the word finesse with Rioja??). Drank in gulps with parmesan dusted NY style mushroom meatball mozzarella pizza from Peppino's in Athens, GA while watching Parenthood with my 17 YO daughter (who also pronounced the wine delicious). What a Tuesday night...thank you sir may I have another. Anyone really disappointed with this wine has WAY more money than me and is a spoiled brat. Geek out. — 9 years ago

Wonderful Pino- plenty of substance to provide a beautiful balance with fish and veal. Very approachable easy to drink- light on the tannins - blackberry and fruits present. Only disappointment was this was the last bottle they had- would have ordered more if available. — 8 years ago
