Purple in color with a purplish rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, earth, milk chocolates, tobacco and black pepper.
Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cherries, sweet raspberries, smoke, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, earth, dark chocolates, graphite, black pepper, spices and light vegetables.
Long finish with soft tannins and black pepper.
A nice blend of Barbera and Syrah from Piedmont. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food. Spicy with nice complexity. A little hot at the back of the throat, but I didn't have time to properly open it up.
Needs 2 years in the bottle to mature properly. Could age nicely in the next 7 years.
Only 4600 bottles produced.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
89 points.

Pfalz Riesling with new oak. Not barrique but 500l barrels.
Apricot, nicely oaked, light pineapple, honeysuckle, lovely acidity with apricot and oak on the palate. — 10 years ago
Not quite the correct wine...and this is far better than the 8.7s I’m seeing. Had this with fresh egg fettucini, homemade pasta sauce, and Waygu meatballs we made from ground beef we got at Snake River Farms. Another winner from our friends at Le volpe e’ l’uva in Florence! — 5 years ago
Looks like peach nectar, with the lightest, looping bubbles in a loose bunch atop, becomes a petri sample of fruit fungus, then all clear to firework lacing and morning mist. Big wood notes, though not as toasty in parts, cigar box, funky softwood of dead forest fall, ripe for mushrooms. Lovely dried lemon peel, orange peel, and dried apricot in cigar boxes, live pineapple and pencil shavings in a clean attic. On the palate, yellow cherry, funky sour pineapple, lime-cedar, lemongrass, savory, dried okra, a drop of orange bitters, nose filling blood orange, and lemon oil for the duration. Fantastic nuances, amazing balance, woody depth. Just fine craftsmanship here, from the old school. — 6 years ago

Apples. Not too sweet. Ding dong. — 9 years ago
When you look at a petri dish through a microscope and see the surface teeming with bacterial life. That's what this wine tastes like. So much going on, it is bursting with flavor and texture. Slightly zingy carbonation, green apple, raving acidity. Paradoxically focused, yet all over the place. — 9 years ago
Loved this. Thank you Dean Gold for a list stocked with fun oddballs like this. Never had a rosé like this before. It has the thirst-quenching crispness and juiciness of a rosé but the fruit flavors and fleshiness of it are more like red wine than pink. Not like a lambrusco or an actual sparkling red though. There is also a strong sensation of crushed rock and not surprisingly it's super-cloudy and constantly changing in the glass. Apparently this has both white grapes and red in the mix. Lots of fun was had imagining the flesh-eating monsters that would evolve and rise up from this if you left it in a petri dish or fed it after midnight. — 10 years ago
Black cherry and violets commingle with red cherry lavender and raspberry in a clean, and enticing nose of fruit and flower. Blueberry, blackberry and cassis are extras, but this is not the fruit bomb the description conjures. There is something light, sunny and natural about the whole; wisps of sweet tobacco and vanilla blossom undulate on a forest and mushroom motif that feels springy, panoramic and breezy. The palate boasts dried cranberries, tangy raspberry and plump black cherry. Thyme a cinnamon dusting and the aforementioned tobacco, now a fine, smoky cigar. This one is gorgeous, and a testament to the estate. Ripe and juicy, but the oak is in check. Bravo! .
