A little clenched on opening but quickly turning sappy and aromatic, with copious aromas of red currant, cranberry, and pine. Fresh and almost racy on the palate, with all of the fruit purity and animating acidity that are such a hallmark of the Santa Rita Hills in general and this especially cool, sandy site specifically. The 100% whole cluster inclusion is wonderfully integrated, contributing seamless, satiny structure and a hint of juniper and bay leaf on the finish.

It’s taking a while to pry the nose open, but immediately the whole cluster and carbonic character is noticeable. Delightfully acid down the main line of the palate, very graceful and angular tannic structure. Soft edges of mesquite smoke and red fruit desperately trying to elbow its way to the top, but restrained by oxygen at the moment. Sultry spice like anise shows up in the corners.
