Classic Napa Cab with polish and finesse. Ripe fruit, slick oak and grippy tannins.

2012 - Luscious cassis bouquet; great body, light white pepper, slightly old world, tart finish.

Paired with braised short ribs for Christmas dinner. As always, White Rock does not disappoint. Vanilla, raspberries and ash with just the right amount of tannins to make this stand up to a big steak or the aforementioned short ribs.

It's going to be that kind of election night. Might as well break out the good stuff.

I'm the world's biggest White Rock fan but was slightly disappointed with this vintage. Don't get me wrong, it has all the distinctive Napa cab qualities - a dark ruby red, almost inky color; a nose of plums and ash; and a taste of tart cherry and strawberry - but the strong tannins kind of overwhelm everything else. A few years aging may easy that and this will be a fine wine but it's not there yet.
