This is Veuve Fourny’s Premium Cuvée. Lemon yellow in colour. 100% Chardonnay - a monopole Clos of only 0.72 acre. Vines over 60 years old. 100% oak vinification and kept 7 months on Lees BUT aged at least 9 years in bottle. Initial impressions / yeasty (baked bread) Citrussy. On palate crisp citrus flavours and chalky notes - very refreshing for this Blanc de Blancs. With time there developed a subtle complexity which was very compelling when initially I thought a little simple for one of the 1001 Wines. Visited there 3 years ago and had a tasting with the matriarch and her 2 sons. This Clos is the small walled area surrounding the HQ and Tasting Room. Looking forward to my other 2 bottles within the next few years.
