Poured into a Swan decanter about 30min prior to service. The 2018 “Le Cupole” pours a dark ruby with a near opaque, slightly hazy core. Medium+ viscosity with fairly significant staining of the tears. On the nose, powerful aromas of tart dusty cherries, currants, black plums, purple flowers, bell pepper, gravely earth and warm spices. On the palate, medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose however the fruits are showing more desiccated which is made apparent on the finish. So Italian despite being more Cab Franc and Merlot. Drink now with a short decant or enjoy through 2030

Much brighter than I had in memory from prev vintages. Red fruit with crunchy cherry, some blackberry & blackcurramt emerge after some time, the wine quiets with time and starts showing more Bordeaux blend characteristics.
Nice mouthfeel, juicy, fresh, the tannins surprisingly present & vibrant. Nice earthy, leathery accent towards the finish adds complexity.
A safe bet with a steak that rarely disappoints.
