For National Cabernet day here's an interesting one...

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, cedar, vanilla, leather, bell pepper, tobacco, green vegetables, chocolates, mocha, caramel, black pepper and spices.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry to off dry, and extremely fruity on the palate, with blackberries, black currants, sweet cherries, raisins, vanilla, cedar, licorice, cloves, cola, light vegetables, pencil lead and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries.

This whiskey barrel aged Cabernet from Monterey County, California is always enjoyable. Showing mild complexity after an hour of airtime. Balanced and good by itself or with food.

A good everyday wine to sip on by the porch and good for parties. Might be too fruity for some.

Has high alcohol, but it is not too noticeable, so watch out.

Aged for 3 months in Bourbon whiskey barrels.

I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

88 points.

To quench my Friday's Cabernet fix craving, I opened an interesting California Cabernet.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, black plums, sweet cherries, dried figs, tobacco, spices, chocolates, toasted oak, coffee, vanilla, licorice, cloves, spices and black pepper.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry and extremely fruity on the palate with blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, bourbon, licorice, chocolates, brown sugar, tobacco, spices, mocha, coffee, cola and peppercorn.

Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a nice surprise. This Californian Cabernet is drinking nicely now with nice complexity and balance. Fruity and spicy with a nice mouthfeel.

This is another teeth staining red wine. Good right out of the bottle, and did not change much in the decanter, other than the bourbon taste goes away with time, and it gets smoother.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers.

Consumed 11/2017,. This limited release Cabernet Sauvignon blends the craftsmanship of California wine making with the southern tradition of bourbon whiskey aging. Our coastal California vineyards deliver deep flavors of black cherry and blackberry to the wine. The next step is to age the Blend in bourbon whiskey barrels for at least three months, adding nuances of vanilla, brown sugar and toasty oak. The first night I drank some of this I already had something else on my palate. I’m trying it again but it has been open for a few days, and I am eating spicy Mexican food. So I am on the fence about how I really feel about it.

Not impressed when we first opened the bottle. It seemed like a novelty wine. But very much enjoyed it the next night. It was more mellow. Must be the opportunity for it to breathe.
