I think Alto Piedmonte is a great wine for Summer. Nervy, aromatic, lively yet full of tannic grace and charm. Tart res berries, cherry, wildflowers, smoke, minerals and wild herbs. Love its chisel, the leanness that this vintage has.

After tasting this vintage for the last 12 months I can say it's truly come around.

Cherries, porcini powder, crushed rock, flowers, herbs, spices, licorice root, tar, sarsaparilla. Wonderfully balanced. Juicy acid, fine tannins, soft and elegant nose and texture. A steal for the price.

This is not for me. It is thin. It tastes ok at best. The bottle got corked upon opening by our waitress who was mortified but I don’t think it was her fault 😬

Beautiful tannins for a 2013 vintage in 2022. 80% Nebbiolo.

Soft, beautiful, precisely structured with all kinds of interesting and deep tastes. This is exactly what nebbiolo should taste like.

Day 2: You can smell the spice, black pepper hits first with red cherry and dry dirt and a lilac or subtle lavender. The tannins are still present with acidity down the side of the tongue and around the teeth. The black pepper is more subtle on the palate, but still very much there. Tart red cherry, pomegranate, more lavender and some tree bark. It’s nice. A bit more fruit on day 1. Probably needs 3 or so more years.
