Really earthy red with a lot of character and tannin to last age a few more years. Mellowed the second night.

Dehydrated currants, green notes, framboise core, astringent tannins, that are okay with me.

If you’ve ever been to a vineyard, there’s a yeasty, vegetal, woodsy aroma around the processing of grapes. It’s the wonderful aroma of the process. The maceration of grapes is in this bouquet.

Dry. This wine doesn’t mess around. It announces itself on your taste buds, the way a wine should. And yet, it isn’t pretentious or aggressive in its taste. It’s drinkable and doesn’t masquerade any complex flavors. There’s a certain charm to a wine that can hold a simple flavor and still hit on all chords of roundness. Surprisingly fruit forward, this Croatian Wine has an end quality that is a bit astringent and herbaceous. A leafy finish.

Solid — $15 at Astor Wine

2016. Kind of...loved it a lot. Musky and a wee bit barnyardy and not heavy.
