I was given this Cabernet Sauvignon as a Christmas gift. I know it is the 23rd but, I didn't think it would hurt to have it tonight. The nose at first opening is very expressive with nice fruit, black cherry, black currant, black pepper, green bell pepper, and licorice. On the palate the black cherry and black currant continue through. Being a 2012 I am surprised at how velvety this is. I continue to get tobacco notes and vanilla. There at medium + tannins and medium + acidity with a good long finish. Not a bad bottle of wine from Australia.

Bought this with excitement after trying the Bin 9 2013, but the 2012 doesn't quite get there. After two hours of air it finally opened up enough. Re-Tasting 10/31/18: perhaps the first bottle just wasn’t stored right. This cab shines and matches the 13 right after opening. Upped from 89 to 91.

Red fruit, more iron, cinnamon, a little of that eucalyptus thing. Pretty tight and unexciting.

Quite nice especially for the price. Tannins were pretty rounded.

A good addition to the Penfolds extensive list of red wines. An enjoyable cab sav at an affordable price. Enjoyed it with a roast leg of lamb.

At home in Anaheim today figuring I should focus on wines that I’ve had for awhile that may not be meant to last for 20 years.

Definitely has some potential... dark cherry and white pepper, violet. Short and abrupt finish will improve with age and tannin structure bound to improve.
