Note of cardboard indicating TCA otherwise known as cork taint. Not noticeable on the palate and therefore drinkable. This is a massive 389 which is dense and dark- almost black even at 19 years. Aromas of cassis and blackberry. On the palate sweet berry fruit like blackberry jam also chocolate finishing with grainy tannins. Will cruise for another 5 to 10 years.

Not your average day trying this one.
1998, Awesome!
Ultra fine and soft tannins carpet a well balanced mouthful of stewed plums with an acidity that is still very fresh. Maybe four years older than I would choose to drink it but still loved it.

Penfolds DNA of chocolate, berry and malt aromas with slight touch of cardboard- cork taint - not apparent on the full bodied satisfying palate. Plenty of tannin at bottom of bottle after decanting. A big wine still with a big future - Penfolds say to 2030!

A very robust wine from a hot year, 14%+, and still quite youthful even after 17 years. Great fruit and tannic structure, but lacking any subtlety.

Jul 25th, 2015Still rich in colour. Very dusty nose. Penfolds nose of choc/malt but becoming more ground coffee. A very good combination of plummy fruit and savoury palate. Penfolds say to 2030! They certainly build them to last! 18+.

Another awesome experience. Taken from notes after long 16 days in Australia. Good structure great body and still had tannins. Very impressive!

Clear, deep garnet,almost black in colour. Clean, pronounced fruits. Dry, high acidity and tannins in nice balance. Full bodied with chocolate and mocha flavours. Long finish. Outstanding value.

Classic Penfolds. 22 years old but still fresh and ruby red. Cabernet shining on the front palate with unctuous chewy tannins at the back fleshed out by spice and chocolate from the Shiraz. So enjoying it!
