Unquestionably one of the best Syrahs I’ve encountered outside of France (okay, no, I haven’t tried enough, but still). Wonderfully rounded body, tons of mocha notes and a very lengthy finish. Not sure if other vintages are as good, but this one bangs.

This wine has got better and better. On the third day is drinking beautifully. Straight out of bottle, it was tannic and very much an introvert. Having been opened and decanted, however, this Syrah is in its element. Classic notes of dark cherries and dried red meats (particularly game) ooze into a savoury chocolate mid-palate. The finish graces your taste buds with an espresso martini that seems endless. For the money, this is a superb wine. Rated 92/100 by Wine Spectator in 2015.

New oak on the nose along with mulling spices and dark fruit. Palate is restrained and elegant. Berries, firm tannin, pepper, some vegetal qualities.

Very suspicious. Did not realize that Montes Alpha line was offered in either "estate bottled" or "dry farmed" which would explain maybe why this #Syrah is so damn tannic. Nose is wonderful with pepper/earthy notes but way tannic than I remember the last bottle of 2012 to be and furthermore way too tannic than other 2012 Syrah'a that I've been enjoying from Chile. Hmm?? Scooby Dooby Doo where are you? We got some work to do now. Not a horrible wine. Just needs some time to develop or better yet a steak to tear up!

So we're talking about the 2012 vintage of Chilean #Syrah which from what the critics are all saying is a phenom year 4 the varietal. This 1 is from @monteswines A #dryfarmed Syrah, with a pinch of Cab, is dark inky, lush dark berry fruit, silky smooth, low to medium tannin structure and a smooth finish. Absolutely exquisite on its own and would pair well with something grilled. One of my fav's from Montes year after year!

Old world in style. Expressive nose. Flavors of anise, pepper and black earth. Well done.

We had the 2012 on 1/14/24. Tastes of blackberry, plum, blueberry, mocha and pepper. Fruit forward, New World with silky tannins. A nice Syrah.

Intense berry flavours, smooth with well balanced tannins and acidity. Worked great with pan-fried venison steaks.
