This...is a great wine. Gorgeous dark garnet color. Nice bricking of the rim. Complex spicy nose. Licorice? Cardamom? One or the other. And tobacco. Tasty red fruit. Soooooft tannins. Looooong finish. Really just the best Brunello I have had.

2001 Castel Giacondo Riserva Brunello. Drank at Toscana w K. First time either of us had tried this wine. Really interesting nose- decanted for abt 30 min and hadn't really opened up yet on our first sip: bright celery. Intense. Then it opened up and was pure cantaloupe. So interesting. Really liked this wine. The texture and finish was great.
