@Benjamin Keator had his hosting at the CC tonight and it was absolutely incredible. What a night of gorgeous wines! All wines are guessed blind.

The third white in an insane flight of Chardonnays. I guessed all were Cali (they were), and guessed they are all 2012 (they were). I actually guessed this was either Kongsgaard or Jarvis Finch Hollow, so half right? Richly gold in the glass (Kongsgaard giveaway). Acidity was fairly high which was surprising. Honeyed fruit and honeycomb. Always unique and always fantastic.

The hallmark, and almost its give away, is its balance of all the complexities that come together to create a stunning wine of richness, precision, harmony and length. There’s so many facets to this wine and they all seem to be working together to weave a whole, uniformed wine. Reminiscent of Batard Montrachet, but with a little more CA sunshine to boot. So powerful but so playful and energetic on the palate.

Hats off to @Benjamin Keator for bringing this beauty to the monthly WTF wine group. This was my first time having Kongsgaard, so definitely a treat. It threw me off when Ben opened this and poured in to the decanter and said it needs about 3 hours to start coming alive! Insane for a Chardonnay.
The color on this 2012 is so gorgeous...got that amber hue to it. I sipped on a small glass the first hour and right out of the gate it seemed like a very good/quality Chardonnay, but nothing jumped out to me. Revisiting it a few hours later showed me the change Ben was talking about. The finish revealed nuttiness...lots of peanuts, walnuts. Not a butter bomb. Silky texture. Even after being open for 3 hours, this sucker was still tight and needed more air time plus a few more years of aging. Incredibly made Chardonnay. Thanks again Ben for bringing this!

Always enjoyed these wines, this is a big wine, reminds me of a huge Bâtard, it's a compliment though, the Judge takes it to another level...

This wine is a mouthful. Really full bodied, even and large expression of fatty stone fruits and well made barrels. We had this wine with Mango, Brie and Arugula Panini along side a nice plate of fatty charcuteries and it was a total marriage of intent. If you like 'em big, this is your wine.
