Diaporos Block 5 Naoussa Xinomavro

Strawberry and cherry. Nice body with lasting astringency on the finish.

Not that familiar with Greek wines. So it was a nice surprise to taste this Diaporos. Earthy and full as good as any Italian Barolo I've had.

This one is more tannic than its less expensive sister that i just reviewed. It will be a better wine in 5 years than its sister. It also is more textbook xinomavro.

Aug 11th, 2015I went through several Barolos/Barbarescos this week and going on to this is as seamless a transition as you can imagine. The resemblance is uncanny, although there is a noticeable purely optic difference--the color of this wine is a neon-bright magenta, almost Beaujolais-like. That leads to super-pure fruit on the palate (not showing even a bit of its oak) but the main thing I find remarkable here is the textural refinement. It starts out soft and satiny even though the grape variety's typically strong tannins build up and firm up the wine on the back end.
