This was the “Mountain Plains” special edition bottling, Meritage/Bordeaux style red, and it was impressive. Plenty of stuffing here and it is clearly still VERY young (2015) so after a couple hours in the decanter it began to open up expressing a Left Bank nose of red & black fruit, pencil lead, tobacco, damp Earth and some herbaceous w/white pepper from the large % of Cab Franc. Muscular tannins, exceptionally full-bodied, they got some huge extraction on this wine and did not over-oak it. Played beautifully w/filets - expensive, even by VA wine standards, but they got this one right.
