Overall very disappointing. Took nearly a day to open up. But just doesn’t express volnay. Nose is quite reticent but what is there is brooding drkfruit, black cherry, woody notes, a bit of menthol. Palate adds aging notes of cranberry, dried leaves and iron. Finishes with drying tannins that were dusty enough that our first thought was”flawed wine” but gradually loosened a bit of their grip after a day. No sign of any floral notes, red fruits or atmospheric aromatics. Overall quite muscular in almost a GC village kind of way that was pretty good but not what one would expect. Drank next to a Jadot clos de chenes and wasn’t close to a fair fight.
