Smokey on the nose and all over, charred meat and blackberry compote, but all fully resolved. We quietly sucked down 2 bottles over dessert and cheese but hell if this wasn’t the best match for fleur-de-sel laced dark chocolate I ever had. Fully resolved, delicious and unlikely to get better.

Coffee (oak notes) along with blackberry plum and chocolate on nose and palate. Has settled down after 11 years. Much more pleasurable than the 2008 Stonewell had recently which had too much prune.

May 30th, 2017Powerful nose of blueberry pie and barrel toast.
First thing that hits the palette are crunchy tannins. Then the linzer torte rush hits you, chased by all spice and cinnamon. It's all rather brash, but we are very much enjoying this old favorite. 14.5% abv is quite restrained for the Aussies.

First bottle, 3 months ago, was quite advanced in 👀👃👅, but with no other flaws (no oxidation/spoilage/or TCA taint)

👀Dark ruby./purple. Youthful
👃Sweet fruit
👅Fruit forward with blurry flavors. Dry tannins with slight heat. Paired nicely with wagyu beef
Remaining wine Slow Decanted in my refrigerator

👃Spicy blackberry, anise, chalk, & dried fruit
👅Purple fruit, anise & chocolate. Not complex but tasty. Finishes spicy with some heat. Balanced sweetness. Lowish acidity. Nice wine 🍷
This second bottle was what I expected. What caused the first bottle to be so advanced?

I love Australian Shiraz, especially with 10+ years of age. However, this bottle was advanced more than I expected

👅Same dried cherries, maybe slightly stewed, and anise/allspice. Good acidity. Was generally drinking pretty well
I have a few bottles so I will check in on another one soon to see if this was an outlier. I was expecting this to be at the front of a long drinking window. Was this a volatile acidity issue?
