This leaked in transit so i popped it to see if there’s anything left. Dark colored still with bricking at the edges. A nose with wood, tar, dark dried cherry, herbs. Still good fruit with a real core of dark, brooding, quite gnarly and serious leathery stuff. A bit of Madeira... Noticeable tannins at the end, quite shrill. Old school and splendid. At 70 this has life left still!

I liked this wine, and other than the Lafleur Petrus, thought it the most complete wine of the flight. Good, though faded fruit and acidity remained, but in balance. All in all, a delightful surprise.

1947 Giacomo Borgogne & Figli Barolo. Drank during Truffle Dinner/Vintage Italian Wine Night at Thomas B's house w K and co. First flight. Couldn't believe how much fruit was still in this wine. So special.
