I remember when buying these was like Russian roulette. Half the bottles in the case would be bacterial, refermenting disasters, and the other half would be transparent, electric, mainline shots of awesomeness. Well, Frank's a better winemaker now than he was, and I haven't come across a flawed bottle in a few vintages. This sits firmly in the awesomeness camp, with red fruit and hot basalt and so much floral. A little riper than other vintages, though that's not a complaint, just an observation.

Opened a little funky and oxidative, but gained youth and freshness in the decanter. Classic Corenelissen Nerello, full of cherries and hot rocks and herbs. Other Nerellos may bring more complexity, but Munjabel is always so alive, dynamic and direct.

This bottle has aged way better than I thought it would as this was before Frank started adding small amounts of sulfur to help stabilize his wines. More balanced now. Fruit is still super vibrant while the acidity isn’t as razor sharp as before. Nose is SUPER funky with hints of cabbage on top of the smokiness and red fruit. Drinking window: now - 1 yr.

The epitome of interest for me, wild, challenging but most importantly absolutely delicious, it just keeps you coming back for more. Incredible balance, how is it 15%? I haven't had a 15% abv table wine for longer than I can remember, and those volcanic tannins, brilliant 🌋

all lovely wildness, some mineral moments like when you bite your tongue with lightness, delicate fruit, and bubbles all the same
