I often think of Carignan as the punk rock varietal: unruly & prolific when young, but when old vine Carignan is carefully tended (and these farmers mispronounce it as Kerrigan, hence the funny name) it gains incomparable depths but is still unruly, sauvage, and profound (think Lou Reed...)
