Domaine Pascal Cotat
Les Monts Damnés Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc
Sancerre, Central Vineyards, Loire Valley, France

Started out dark gold and the oxidative nose suggests it’s past it’s prime. But with air the nose becomes more complex and the color seems to lighten a bit. Notes of apricot, pineapple, wet stone, some white clay and a little vanilla. Good structure and still powerful acidity. Nice showing, but drink up.

Light straw gold color. Good viscous weight in the glass. Notes of honey dew melon, lemon, river stone and a little apricot in the nose. Great balance of fruit and acidity in the mouth. Really nice showing.

1st bottle is a deep gold and based on its smell it is obviously oxidized. Not at all similar to prior bottles of this and air didn't help. Bought via auction so maybe provenance is an issue. But second bottle is appropriate. Medium gold color with nice weight. Fruit forward in the nose with notes of sweet lemon, apricot, orange peel, stone, and a little earth. Rich and glycerol in the mouth. Lovely fruit forward tone, but with fine grained acidity that ratchets up complexity. In a perfect drinking window methinks.

Some nice age gives this almost a honeyed Raveneau like nose. Rich in the mouth. Really good.

Aged Sauvignon Blanc wins again. Balanced and beautiful. No dominant notes of grass/pyrazine or tropical fruits, just clean and refreshing. Didn't show its age until a couple hours open.

Dec 16th, 2015This is a revelation. Still bright citrus fruit with hint of honeycomb, lanolin and white pepper. Wine has dynamite balance with aging citrus fruit, mineral zest and a touch of dried mushroom.

Jul 7th, 2018Tasted so young, so fresh upon opening. Very clean and none of those "typical" flavors. To me, I get a core of some kind of hard candy. I'll figure it out sooner or later.
