Tasted blind. Tawny color with clear rims. Amazing, sweet nose. Notes of sour cherry, asian spice, mocha, sois bois, dark earth and some salt. Hearty in the mouth. Great structure. Debate ensues about the age of the wine, and my guess is 90 Dujac CdlR. Tells you how good this ~50 year old juice is. Got better over the night. Peacocks and prances about. Can still smell this the next day.

M’s bday dinner (7/12). Tasted blind. Bright tawny color. Has good weight but suspect it’s older. Exotic powerful nose. Everyone smiles, this is special. Notes of red cherries, Asian spice, rose petals and dark earth. Flamboyant in the mouth. “Amazing” underlined 2x in my notes. Memorable. We started enjoying this after 4 hours of air was given to it and even 3 hours after that this was still singing. Guessed 69 La Tache. This ended up being my favorite wine of the evening. The emotional impact was more than the other 2 slightly older DRCs. There was a long, mixed debate on this though.

DRC Richebourg 1971, in jeroboam: fully mature, but incredibly still fresh and vibrant and concentrated, with serious complexity, highlighted by notes of soy sauce and dueling sensations of cedar and forest floor. This bright, medium-to-full bodied star didn’t fade over the 90 minutes of dinner, and its finish trailed off into a seeming eternity. A top 5 wine of my life.

Once again 71 riche came out ahead of 71 tache. The wine kept opening. Luscious fruit that was secondary but still with a lot of power

Only a sip, but surreal. Muscular red cherry earth and leather with almost a toasted coffee nose. Bust silky and luscious. And still plenty of acid. Bar set very high. 1971 vintage.
