2008 Vosne-Romanee. This wine was pretty but not gorgeous. First sip was still all primary fruit but the mid palate lacked depth and the acidity was out of balance. The wine comes from Vosne not 200 yards from DRC, but as we know, in Burgundy terroir is everything. I'd have this again but I wouldn't search for it.

2008 vintage. Bruno Clair. Medium ruby hue. Whiff of reduction on the nose - sulphur, coffee and blackberry / blackcurrant. Some sweet spice and old oak. Coffee notes. On the palate, high acidity, medium minus body, medium plus concentration, medium minus tannins - fine. The finish is a little tart, but probably needs a bit more air to round out.

2008 vintage. Bruno Clair, Les Champs Perdrix. Spiced redberry on the nose, with nutmeg and cinnamon. Some earthy notes. Leather on the palate with same spiced red berry. Slightly lacking in concentration. But refined and quite Chambolle like rather than Vosne. Good length. Really enjoyable. NB: after an hour in the glass, some mocha notes appearing. After an hour and a half in the glass, the wine is showing a depth of complexity greater than expected from this lieu dit. Given this is more of a drinking vintage than a classic, bravo to the winemaker. (Reaffirms my view that 2008 is underrated - Clos des Lambreys is also over-performing for the vintage.)
