This is as classic as Napa Can can be - deep Ruby even at 9 years of age, wonderfully developed nose of cassis, red currant, violet, blackberry, wild raspberry, cedar, cigar box and wet stone, dried rose petal and cedar. Beautiful balance between the fruit, the silky, elegant tannins, crisp acidity and alcohol (15.2%). Very long finish and very much full of life - it has another 10 years of life. Voluptuous without being too ripe or overly extracted. Masterful

This is a good wine with the potential to be even better. It needed a good 45 minutes to open up. Still was a little sharp around the edges. Made a note to let the rest bottle age for another 4-5 years to soften the tannins. Can’t wait to taste again in 2024. I expect it to score higher. I have ‘15’s and 16’s in the cellar as well. I will give them a taste test soon to develop an aging plan.

Big and thin? An almost impossible balance. Blackberry currant chocolate earth. Finish fades quickly to nothing. Delicious but wanting a bit more from beginning to end. Pricey. Josh and Debbie Crocket. Berns February.
