Sipping Fine Wine

Badia a Coltibuono, or "The Abbey of good harvest," lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, between Florence and Siena. The Abbey is approximately two thousand years old. Deep red with aromas of black fruit and a big earthy nose. On the palate ripe blackberry and cherry with savory tannins, lacking some luster as the wine is a bit past it's peak. Medium finish ending with earthy mineral tones.

Traditional style, no Cab or Merlot in here. Rustic red fruit, leather, tobacco, earth, a little spice. Great acidity which gives the wine a nice balance. Nice to see classicly made Chianti

Medium bodied. Brilliant ruby color. Tea and a touch of barnyard and bitter plum skin on the nose. Even a little rose petals notes. Tart cherry and plum skin on the palate. Great long finish for such an elegant wine. Redefines what a chianti classico can be; and i love chianti classicos. Bravo

Strong on the nose but fruity and sweet on the palate. Smoky raisins, peachy and with a smooth finish. An experience worth having.

Thin. Light, somewhat astringent. Limited fruit shining through. Would have guessed a new world Pinot noir blind. Sad when I think of this house's '97 Riserva, one of the best CCs I've ever had. Could be a bad bottle, air didn't help.
