This afternoon we had the pleasure of having this 1970 Chateau Saint Pierre St. Julian Beychevelle. On the nose there were notes of black cherry, smokey oak and some leather. On the palate the tart black cherry comes through with some licorice and a touch of oak. The tannins have been all but resolved. What tannin is there was fine and smooth. There still was a medium low acidity and a nice minerality I liked. A nice drinkable Bordeaux at 46 years of age with my steak. Very pleasant.

Still rich, still primary. A lesson for me in the durability of St.-Julien, and 1970.

(I pegged it for Graves, and late 70s.)
