Opaque dark with barely any ageing in the rim. Still very tight in the nose, youthful, with shy black currant & black cherry, pencil shavings, a tiny bit of cigar leaf. Nice austere purity here. Powerful yet v. restrained.
On the palate this is more open & evolved. Amazing quality of tannins, so finely polished, so velvety, coating & juicy. Black currant jam with a hint of plum, a sprinkle of savoury herbs. Finishes off on the dry, herby side, not too long.
I was expecting a bit more depth on the mid palate & a bit more length.
Will it improve over time…?
9.0 (mainly for the amazing tannins)

Really confused about this wine. I had the same vintage from a half bottle a few weeks ago from the same merchant and it was classic French and great! This one was totally different. Much more American like, but was rough and even a little over the hill. Lacked earth and fruit, and was very harsh on the palate. I did give it almost an hour decant. Weird!

What a lovely find today!! Was in search of a half bottle to pair with a half bottle I already had and found this gem @ £25! Now you have to like that classic, powerful French Bordeaux smell or you’ll absolutely hate this.

30+ minutes open in the bottle. Dark red color. The nose smells like you just walked through cow shit and then past a herd of horses on your way to Paris! Love it! Wine has depth and structure, but finish is medium at best. Excellent QPR and I plan to try more of the better vintages. Love when things like this happen!!

Found this to be MUCH better the next day.. IMO a good table wine, not a great value for the price

Cherry backed up by forest floor and mocha flavors. Inky, medium-bodied. Not the best vintage, but still well done and well priced in an uneven year. Got for $32 at Costco.
