This bottle was opened several hours prior to dinner. The 2001 Riserva pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe Morello cherry, red flowers, leather, black tea, and a lovely mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, slightly savory and super complex. A textbook Brunello Riserva that leans on the more elegant side of the spectrum. A fabulous pairing with lombo di agnello. Drink now with patience through 2041.

Wow, absolute delight. High acidity, a touch volatile which is house style. Burgundian, sweet Brunello nose, amazingly long finish and deeply complex. Still very young, slow o for 3 hours then decanted one hour. Best Sangiovese there is. Brunello Riserva

Legendary producer, but I was somewhat underwhelmed. Fruit didn't come through on the nose even after decanting. Might have been a bit of a weak bottle, but if not, I expected more.

2001 Soldera Brunello. Date night at Tosc. This had been standing up since lunch last week. Thought this bottle would be as good as lunch, it wasn’t. Dry, short, austere, green. Pleasant, but not “voluptuous” as K had expected.

Superb. Smooth and Moshe altering. Well balanced with a lighter nose - less dark fruit than a typical brunello- and slightly less muscular. It is an elegant wine drinking beautifully
