Columbia Valley Chardonnay 2013
#wawinemonth In honor of Washington Wine Month we decided to crack open one red and one white wine. For the white wine we decided to go with this chardonnay from Browne Family Vineyards in Columbia Valley. Wine was crystal clear and pale yellow. Nose had some definite oak influence, we noted later that it is aged for 12 months in 68% new French oak. Nose started off with vanilla and some baking spices with undertones of white and tropical fruits, especially crisp green apple and guava. The tropical fruits were definitely more prominent on day two and three. This is a white wine with tannins, not just acidity. Moderate tannins (5/10) with moderate acidity. Very creamy with some wet rocks and minerality in the finish. Minerality increased on the next day. Finish was long and lingering. This wine needs another year or two to fully integrate and mellow out to become super smooth. It is definitely drinkable right now if you like fuller bodied Chardonnays. Deep garnet red. Layered nose with dark stewed berries, damp leaves, earthiness and dark cocoa. Moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) and well rounded. Really dark palate with dark cocoa, a touch of earthiness and dark red berries. Medium plus body with a dry long finish. Drink till 2020. — 7 years ago

#wawinemonth Second wine in honor of Washington Wine Month we had this past weekend. Wine was a dark ruby red. Nose was covered in dark fruits like cassis and dark cherries. Earthy undertones with some light wet rock. On the palate there was cassis, black cherries, raspberries on day one. We tried again on day two and it opened up a ton more with vanilla, and dark baking spices for undertones. Moderate tannins (6/10), moderate body and a little heat in the moderate plus finish. Short note on this one but would wait another year or two before opening. Drink till 2020. — 8 years ago

Deep ruby red. Layered and slightly aged nose with damp forest floor, baking spices, black cherries and dark red berries. Moderate tannins (7/10) and medium plus body. Definitely needs time to open and has a touch of heat. Complex palate with some bitter dark cocoa, dark fruits, twigs and black cherries. A bit angular but leveled out with time. A touch vegetal with a super long finish. Drink till 2020. — 7 years ago

Bright medium to deep yellow. Fruit forward nose yet still layered and complex with tropical fruits, citrus, a little banana, a touch creamy and floral. Moderate acidity (6.5/10) and full bodied. Definitely beefed up on day two and got thicker. Very tropical with a similar banana note on the palate. Creamy mid palate with some nuttiness. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2021.
