Hermann Nitsch Smaragd Riesling 2002

One of the single greatest Riesling experiences for me ever. Totally dry, this was an absolute treat and paired perfectly with my beef dish. Yup, beef with white wine kids!

The color was amber with deep gold accents.
The nose showed clear and vivid honey, baked spiced golden delicious apples, with a beam of saline and minerality.

The palate was multi-dimensional, showing excellent complexity following the nose with baked apples, apple skin, a touch of honey, finishing with a pure and powerful snap of acidity and saline. Barely a touch of oxidation persists here or in the nose. Sometimes you catch a mature wine at the perfect time and I believe that this is one of those times.

Kind of a scary color at first before smelling and tasting, but fret not the wine was sound with a clean nose and palate.
