The 2016 Syrah Sonoma-Hillsides has been nothing less than stunning on the three occasions I have tasted it so far. A wine of extraordinary purity and depth, the 2016 dazzles from the very first taste. The richness and power are simply breathtaking. Bacon fat, smoke, grilled herb and lavender are woven into a graceful, seamless core of inky blue/purplish fruit. Even with all of its intensity, the 2016 remains remarkably light on its feet. The Sonoma-Hillsides is a blend of fruit from Castelli-Knight Ranch, Griffin's Lair and Walker Vine Hill, done with 100% whole clusters and aged in a combination of concrete and neutral oak, with no SO2. I am not sure how the 2016 will age, but I am also not sure it will matter, as most bottles will be long gone before that is an issue. Quite simply, the Sonoma-Hillsides is a total pleasure bomb and a modern-day benchmark for Syrah in California. Don't miss it! (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2018) — 7 years ago
Still very youthful. A lot of whole cluster spice — 8 years ago
$9 at Whole Foods. Would purchase again. Had bite to begin. Jammy and smooth, goes well with pizza. — 8 years ago
Shebang has always been a solid red blend. Previously rated it. — 9 years ago
Whole bunch love!! Great tannins and deep black fruits. Almost briar like favours. Youthful acid, promising so much future. But given air now, she's a seductive minx. So velvety #bkwines #loveinaglass — 10 years ago

Whole Foods, $15
Deep burgundy color, a bit astringent on the nose but to be fair I'm reviewing this 2 days after opening. Quite dry with red fruit/cherry in the front and a very pleasant soil/mushroom earthiness. Slightly dry for my tastes but the smoothness and interesting and prominent red fruit and earthiness combination was very enjoyable. — 6 years ago

Great value! Decant! — 8 years ago
Big hype about this beer, as is "Hop Slam" this one much easy to get, in fact, in CA you can get in many places all the time, price is reasonable too, just check the bottled or canned on dates since it travels far, solid IPA, really nothing new or different, just done very well in the style, if you like your IPA's balanced between malt and hops, like Dogfish then this is perfect fit you, not for me, I prefer the hops be the "Show" but I am not knocking the Beer for that, just I think it is a little over rated — 9 years ago

One of my more recent realizations on Rhys is that when they shut down, they shut down hard, so I'm trying to enjoy some more of my stash in the early window of opportunity. This one is definitely still there, so rich at first that it's practically saucy though without any candied flavors. Rhys always benefits from a long decant but this one was so primary it needed even more time than most to show its underlying contours and reveal some of the rocks beneath the fruit. What I love about the house style is here even though this flirts with being too much of a good thing - for all that dense, saturating, luscious fruit, there is still a whole lot of energy and vibrancy here too. — 10 years ago
crisp and dry with a tart apple finish — 11 years ago
So smooth so excellent — 12 years ago
Are you decorated and ready for holiday guests? We are! Wishing you all a Happy Holiday season. ☃️🦌🎄🎁🎅🤶❄️ Cheers! 🥂
This bottle so good tonight almost a 9.4.
@Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher Bum A shout out & thanks to Paul for finding this on sale and sending it my way so I could stock up. Seeing as Jeff Bezos wouldn’t do the normal Whole Foods Wine sale in mid November. I guess short on cash this Q4? 🤷♂️ — 7 years ago
Slight hint of reduction that faded with 30 mins. Darker fruit profile than expected, considering the light color and low alcohol. 12.5%. well crafted, well balanced. Great value — 7 years ago

My Friday night just got a whole lot better! Always my personal standout and favorite. Especially the 2013! Love this vintage and definitely this winery! — 8 years ago
This is in a good place right now. The intense whole cluster fermentation structure is settling down and it's drinking nicely now. Bright red fruits with a lively finish. 2013 vintage. — 9 years ago
Precociously whole bunchy, but the good will out here. Brightly fruited under all that stemmy, rooty stuff. Floral edges, tang of cherry stone and pinch of spice all glimmer around a beam of red berries. — 9 years ago
As before, such a great value. — 10 years ago
A fun wine- all whole cluster and decidedly funky in that way. Also very grapey. #atechnicalterm — 10 years ago
Youthful, lots of whole cluster influence presently. Delicious though with a great future. Structured, fascinating juice. — 11 years ago

A Riesling with an attitude. Petrol is substituted for lavender and and thyme with a robust mouthfeels and ripping acidity. — 6 years ago
