My wife & I were shopping at Central Market last night and couldn’t help but notice they were serving Caymus BTG at the bar. Needless to say, this got me in the mood for some good ol’ Wagner family juice. I figured I would open a ‘12 up since I have a half-case stashed away, just to see what we’re looking at. Rating will no doubt improve with decanting but as a P&P we have the usual sweet Fig, molasses, baking spice, Rutherford dust/dirt, blackberry cobbler, and rich plums. EDIT: Bumped the rating up from 9.2 to 9.3. After 2 hours in the decanter it’s much more integrated and pleasing to the palate. — 7 years ago
A mouthful up front with a creamy texture. Bottle, label, Wagner name so quality you expect from this family and Caymus they make. — 8 years ago
Relatively dry for area rieslings (label says extreme dry on their chart), but a hint of sweetness lingers. (Tried with mac&cheese at Beecher's) — 9 years ago
Apricot, honey, pineapple and hint of petroleum on the nose. Sweet and nearly oily on the palate. High stringent apple acidity. Full bodied. Finishes long with nice raisin flavor. — 9 years ago
Wagner family wine recipe: well-extracted and concentrated fruit, robust oak profile, with a touch of RS. Not a sophisticated wine, but does it need to be?! This juice is smooth. — 10 years ago
Exceptional year in upstate New York! Wagner only makes their Meritage blend from the best of the best years! A cooler climate red blend with great balance between darker fruit flavors, tannins and oak. — 11 years ago

Not to be harsh, but this was the underperformer of the blind tasting. As said in my previous notes, I reckon I would have gravitated towards this wine if it wasn't done blind. It wasn't a bad wine - I just expected a little bit more.
Nose was very closed. Just smoky and wild. Could have guessed this correctly if producer was an option I felt, since it had the deepest cut of the lot (pretty typical of Daniel's wines). To me the palate was a little less ripe - mix of citrus and stonefruits, sappy, laser precision. Good driven finish, but felt a little less complex than the rest at the moment. I liked this wine for its energy (the most of the lot), but it could have given more. Overall, the wines in this bracket were all showing very well - all wines I would buy for my cellar if I had more space. — 6 years ago
Actually, a very good sparkling!! — 7 years ago
Vintage 2009 - #riesling #trocken with incredible good smell: complex with impressions of butter, vanilla, passion fruit and mango. Honey off course. Beautiful #rheinhessen with ocean perch and pasta salad. What a treat if riesling becomes older 😊 — 8 years ago
Enjoyed this with cheese and fruit. Rich, fruity, a bit sweet with cocoa. — 8 years ago
Pretty cheap but really nice rose. — 9 years ago
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde here. Day 1 tight and maybe even a little muddled in the flavor department. Day 2 deep dark cherry flavor - enjoyable. — 10 years ago
Beautifully crisp, one of the best Rieslings I've had. — 10 years ago
Nice Trocken style. Good balance and honeyed development. — 10 years ago
1997- really delicious and holding up well. Touch sweet and with plenty of acidity. — 6 years ago
A dang good Malbec. — 7 years ago

Regular edition did not love. Kept awake. — 8 years ago
Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner is a 4th generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since 1906. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot almost looks like a Cab) with aromas of ripe berries and spice notes. The palate shows rich black fruits, blackberries, plums and black cherries, vanilla spice, cedar and cacao. Rich soft tannins, firm acidity on lingering finish ending with mineral tones. Nice! — 8 years ago
My first love when it comes to Finger Lakes Reds. Not a great vintage for Reds, but the shorter growing season for pinot snuck this one in under the radar. Lots of cherries and a hint of maybe olives? It has some lively acidity that makes it dance on your tongue. It's got the red strength without being overpowering. Beautiful with seafood. — 10 years ago
Very full and very vanilla.. Signature Wagner wine. — 11 years ago
