A go-to red for me from the Douro DO of Portugal. Benefits from a 2-hour decant. Comes in at only $8. The winery name, Vila Regia, means "royal town", and was a designation given to towns founded by the Kings of Portugal.
"Ruby colour. Fine and elegant red fruit bouquet, combined with hints of vanilla and coconut. Balanced, rounded, and full-bodied flavour with an elegant, lingering aftertaste."

I do like Portuguese wine and this one is such a steal from Aldi at just £4.99. No wine that price is going to be world-class but it's still a great easy drinker for a Friday evening.
Made up of three grape varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca it gives a hint of spice and cherries on the nose. Taste is some tannin with a good plum and blackberry body. Left to breathe for a couple of hours it ended up being quite smooth. All in all a little diamond for under a fiver. — 8 years ago

Great fruit and body. Typical sweetness but somewhat restrained leaving it very refreshing. Vintage Port. — 10 years ago

Visited their estate in Douro: dedicated, passionate and masterful team of vintners...slowly changed their production away from commoditized port varieties to single varietals and fine blends...this red blend, and their "Superior" are worth getting anytime. — 11 years ago
